Youtubers who have millions subs are not doing it just for fun anymore. From a random funny guy who's just goofing around in a video to a world-wide mega-star of, the "professionalization" process surely took away a lot from what they originally were, their personality, their style etc. Some of the popular youtubers who didn't delete their old early videos. I watched few of them and how they started.
There are big youtubers who still do it for fun, but still they have to "play by the rules" if they want to keep living off youtube. Small youtubers might not have the best quality cameras, the best editing software, the best lighting and fancy "recording studio rooms", but that doesn't matter. and it takes huge chunk of the genuine aspect from the thing. gosh, how much I hate those), make flashy clickbait thumbnails, clickbait videos titles, focus on numbers, selling merch/products and being "ad friendly". Everything is scripted to attract the largest possible audience based on what's "trending", they make fake overexaggerated reactions (like yelling, opening mouth. They make genuine jokes, they make even offensive jokes since they don't care about ad companies and all this together makes their content enjoyable and fun. Their content is so enjoyable because you can see they just want to have a good time and don't care about length and algorithms and ads and other bullshit to "maximize profits". I don't need a new video every 5 hours lol. Their upload frequency is obviously far lower since these people have actual lives/jobs outside of youtube. Plus they don't beg you for subscribes and don't make "merch" or talk for 5 minutes about their "sponsors" in a video. For example (I'm not gonna say names) I'm subscribed to lot of youtubers who have sub count less than 100K (different areas of hobbies and entertainment) and honestly they make really funny and watchable content comparable to those who are popular. But there are still some genuine youtubers who don't do it for money but purely for fun. Monetization has ruined youtube long time ago.
